Butler-Duke rematch in the works?
David vs. Goliath II? It could happen.
Fresh off signing a long-term extension to continue coaching the national runners-up, Butler Bulldogs head coach Brad Stevens announced that a possible rematch with the Duke Blue Devils is in the works for next season.
There’s no doubt that a rematch of the closest national championship game in 20 years would captivate even the most casual of college basketball fans.
Stevens mentioned that the program is looking into scheduling numerous big-name schools in future years. Butler must strike while the iron is hot, as high-major teams are typically unwilling to play mid-majors because there is no benefit to doing so. But with the Bulldogs reaching Gonzaga-like status, they will be forced to reconsider schedule the tiny Indiana school.
